A two
channel composition using infrasonic frequencies (sounds below 20Hz,
i.e., the bottom threshold of aural sensitivity in humans) derived
from atmospheric noise for five 6'' speaker cones.
This work problematised notions of silence. It could be said to have been silent, however,
upon straining to listen, the
viewer/listener inevitably experienced the ambient sound perceivable
from in front of it; the act of listening to the work, which through
the violent oscillations of the speakers was visually suggestive high
levels of volume, was experientially the act of listing to the
surrounding soundscape.
